Now that autumn is upon us, we are so excited about fall sessions. Pumpkin patches, apple orchards, pictures in the park with the backdrop of brilliant red, orange and yellow bursts of color in the trees… so much to look forward to! The most common question we get from clients after we narrow down a location for a session is “what should we wear?” It can feel overwhelming trying to select the right colors and make sure family members coordinate. Googling or searching Pinterest will leave you with more info than you can possibly process. So we’ve created this helpful guide to make the task of preparing for fall photos a little less daunting! Some resources are original, and others we have borrowed from experts. We realize that everyone has his or her own style, so please remember—these are just suggestions to eliminate the guesswork and help you pick a theme that works for you! COLOR The fall landscape is full of colors, so be selective in picking colors that will pop, but not clash, and will not just blend in with the background. Do not try to match all colors—coordination is key! It is okay to try out various color combinations. If you are not sure what works well together, check out these color collections for some visual inspiration: CLOTHING Choosing the appropriate attire is very important, and depends on the look you are going for. If dramatic is your aim, you may want to go vivid and colorful. Think bold and do not shy away from mixing colors and patterns. If you seek a more subdued look, start with neutral palate and accent with a color and a subtle pattern. Denim works well here, as do pieces with textures and layers. You can add in color with accessories... which brings us to accessories. Hats, belts, and jewelry are fantastic ways to make a statement. Be careful to avoid overdoing it, because you do not want to shift the focus away from you and onto your accessories. If your clothing involves prints or a lot of texture, go minimal with the accessories. But with solid or plain clothes, you can get a little wild and make a statement with accessories.
Regardless of your style, feel free to be creative! Siblings, Couples, and Families We said it above, but it bears repeating: do not try to match colors! Use our color guide or be adventurous in coordinating colors. Do coordinate styles. A dress, scarf, and boots work well next to a collared shirt, sweater and jeans. The same basic rules of colors and accessories apply when dressing an entire family. You may want choose one or two bold colors to mix with neutral clothing. Sometimes less is more. Its perfectly fine if everyone wears jeans for group photos, but vary the colors and styles of the tops and accessories. Many families have luck when the mom chooses her attire first and then works around that for the rest of the family. The possibilities are endless! But to avoid being overly vague, we are including a few examples of complimentary outfit combinations that we like here below. Big No-No's 1.Unless the photo is for commercial purposes, avoid visibly large print brands. 2. Stay away from pure whites. 3. No sneakers (Converse are an obvious exception). 4. No T-Shirts. 5. Do Not over accessorize. Now you know everything you need to prepare for the perfect fall photo. So take a look at our current Child & Family Packages and call us to book your session! Baby Noah has arrived! Big brother Nixon was fantastic, snuggling and kissing this precious little one. We also captured a few shots with their big fur-brother, Tony, looking very protective!
Our session with these three beautiful sisters took us to a wildflower field on a warm sunny day. It was a joy to watch these adventurous girls run and play, totally immersed in their surroundings. Luckily they were willing to pause for a minute and smile at the camera!
We still have sessions available - contact us now to reserve your spot!

We joined Nixon and his parents at the Indigo Lake Boarding Station along the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad for a maternity session and their last portrait session as a family of just three. Indigo Lake has spectacular views of tranquil waters and lush landscape beneath the deep serene. Next to the lake, we captured memories at the train station while they await their new arrival. Nixon is definitely going to be "one cool bro"!
Alyssa and Ryan’s Rose Garden ceremony was the perfect start to this quintessential early summer wedding—as well as the perfect start to a lovely life together. The ceremony took place in the gazebo at the classic Fellows Riverside Gardens in Mill Creek Park. After the ceremony, the bridal party took in the beauty of the richly verdant gardens while we captured images of this amazing day. Next we ventured to the Suspension Bridge for romantic portraits under its lacy arches and silver spires. Then, it was on to the fun and festivities of the evening with a cheerful and vibrant reception at Avion on the Water. Lance was accompanied by Claudia in her debut as a wedding photographer. |
